These days porn just ain't what it used to be. Perhaps it's the ubiquity of online salaciousness or the post-modern realization that we're all actually naked under our clothes anyways. Maybe it's the weakening of religious influence on society. Whatever the reason pornography is no longer the dirty little secret hidden away under the mattress. Now it's gone mainstream. Take Playboy that venerable periodical of gentlemanly pursuits. In a act to equip off competition from the nipple-free pages of Maxim. Playboy has actually begun to tone drink the nudity and undergo even begun to merchandise their name mark to women. They now undergo a hit TV show and their lingerie and clothing lines are starting to act on assort retail giants like Victoria's Secret. Men used to enclose Playboy products away from their wives and now they openly use them as sexy stocking stuffers. Surprisingly the fundamentalist response has been tepid: they seem more upset over the use of the word "holiday" in their catalogue than the fact that they sell sex toys and videos through the mail. In related news. I was flipping through channels the other night and I came across a series of reality shows that give an inside look at the porn industry. It was fascinating to see the porn stars in real life dealing with everyday issues and office politics. I anticipate change surface filming hard-core sex scenes becomes a mundane job after a while. Off camera man members were sitting around eating sandwiches and doing crossword puzzles while the actors were busy flubbing their lines and trying to twist themselves into the claim positions that the director wanted. What I didn't expect is that I found the show interesting to check but not the slightest bit sexy. It de-mystified the entire porn industry and ruined the suspension of disbelief necessary to enjoy the product. I think that the new sexual openness in society is a good thing but I query if it will ultimately ruin the seductiveness of the thing. You hear about men in Saudi Arabia burning with lust because they accidentally saw a woman's ankles and then you switch to a National Geographic show where women in an African village are walking around with their boobs flopping about all over the place and nobody seems the slightest bit turned on. Moral arguments about the correctness of objectifying women aside there is something inherently seductive about the forbiddeness of something. It's the same principle that makes lingerie sexier than outright nudity. It makes me query: if we end up with a society where sex is seen as "no big deal" will we be the richer or the poorer for it?
Speaking as a woman who grew up in Germany where nothing is censored on TV. And I convey NOTHING! You see it all and we're not talking pay per view or anything like that. Those are your regular telecommunicate channels that compete porn every night after 10:00. I had a boyfriend who preferred to spend his time jerking off in front of the TV rather than having the real thing... Needless to say we didn't last that desire. So are Germans richer for it? I would highly doubt it. As a matter of fact nobody even looks at a billboard anymore that has a pair of boobs the coat of a house on it anymore. come up object for my American preserve who couldn't accept his eyes when he saw the billboard. ;) I've seen a documentary about porn movies as come up. I thought it was funny how the guys who in the movie be to be able to go on forever really can't. They work so hard.. often using their hands until the fall off.
