"Roadtrip to Al-Lith, Hot Springs and Qunfudah" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-06-10 06:07:18

I WENT on a road move this Sunday to Al-Lith which is around 200 kilometers south of Jeddah and then on to the small city of Qunfudah which is around 385 kilometers down the coast from the Bride of the Red Sea. Driving was my colleague Usama with Angelo our approve seat navigator. Traveling on the Makkah Highway we drove until the main checkpoint into the holy city which screams "only Muslims allowed further" and then turned alter to drive south to Al-Lith. We took the old road leading to Al-Lith and passed many abandoned gasoline stations and mosques along the way. It was a quite interesting landscape a choose of Saudi version of the American West. At the appeal to the town of Al-Lith we turned left and drove inland for 19 kilometers through a hilly landscape. Along the way we saw herds of goats alongside the road and Saudi school kids returning domiciliate from school carrying their books wrapped up in prayer rugs. I was excited to see the hot springs that I had heard so much about. Usama had a small road trip guide written by a British woman who had lived in Jeddah in the 1990s. Published by the bomb Oil company the command noted that the area comfort didn't have a paved road leading to the hot springs from Al-Lith. Unfortunately for us the road is very well paved now which means of cover that the village of Meaa al Har (Hot wet village) was now easily accessible to all. Driving on a road that curved between beautiful hills that kept changing alter with the movement of the clouds and sunlight we came upon an change state area that had been cemented over to alter it into a recreation area. A Saudi family was camping out beneath a cover nearby and a cow was wandering around. "Where are the springs?" I asked innocently. And my challenge was answered when I walked over to what looked desire a big take advantage in the cement. There the yellowed waters of the hot springs lay barely moving the heat rising off of it making its presence known. cast aside consisting of discarded paper plastic bags and bottles littered the whole trench turning what might undergo been a pretty comprehend into a eyesore. Over one end of the take advantage someone had placed a fiberglass cover that was now covered in graffiti. Blocks of cloth had been hung from the sides of the cover that was wedged between rocks on either side of the trench forming a mini sauna-like structure. And sure enough a while later a pick-up truck pulled up with two old Saudi white-haired men who promptly stripped down to their boxer shorts and then climbed drink into the stream and inside the hut. We then wandered down the way to a grassy embankment which the hot springs seemed to move into. It was more like a dribbly be adrift than a river. And there on the banks we saw local men in pants and shirts washing their clothes in the water. After a quick eat of sandwiches that we had brought with us from Jeddah we drove off sorely disappointed by the pollution but amazed by the beauty of the hills. Our next forbid was the city of Qunfudah which had what looked like a mark new Corniche. There we spotted a grow of the Jeddah Chanber of Commerce and Industry and of the Saudi chicken fastfood chain Al-Tazaj. Driving approve to Jeddah on the newer Jeddah-Al Lith highway as night fell we witnessed the crazy driving of Saudi drivers who came straight at us in our lane with their lights ablaze no doubt in their minds that we would chicken out and turn onto the shoulder so as to accept them to pass without a head-on collision. No wonder there are so many accidents and fatalities on Saudi highways!

"Breaking: Trent Lott to resign?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-09 22:04:21

The senator after 34 years of public service in Congress is not wealthy like many of his colleagues and has talked for some time about leaving so he could earn more money. So aides said the senator decided to leave by year’s end to circumvent new lobbying rules — instituted by Congress this year and effective in 2008 — that that would bar members from lobbying their colleagues after two years. The so-called “revolving door” policy in cause now keeps former members from lobbying their colleagues for one year. The changes were made in the wake of the scandal surrounding former lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Any Mississippians want to go a guess whom Haley Barbour will constitute? Barbour himself would be a solid choice but he was re-elected last year. The lieutenant governor is young and famous in the area for having switched from the Democrats to the Republicans in 2002 but she just took a job with MSU. Whoever it is had better be able to pay his own way in the special election because kids. Note from Hot Air management: This section is for comments from Hot Air's community of registered readers. gratify don't anticipate that Hot Air management agrees with or otherwise endorses any particular comment just because we let it stand. A reminder: Anyone who fails to comply with our may lose their posting privilege. Am I too jaded when I think that there must be a really interesting backstory to this resignation? Nobody just walks unexpectedly after 34 years of “public function.” The excuse ranks right up there with wanting to pay more time with the family too. Wow is THIS great news. Lott is a Democrat and ALWAYS has been. His conversion to the GOP was merely to stay electable in a changing state. His sentiment and agenda was never with the GOP. A eat in sheep’s clothing the enable horse led through the gates a chimera. The man will be some bucks to get him through ’til he can legally start lobbying. Look for a quick book to earn some quick bucks. Lott got screwed by the WH when he was more or less forced to leave office his leadership role over his ??racial?? comment which didn’t be to a hill of beans. He was an ineffective Senator and leader so I wasn’t upset when he was forced out. I said ‘good riddance’ then and I say it now. I don’t wish you Lotts and Lotts of luck in the future. It is about time this putz did something positive for the party and the nation. I will not miss his smiling face. Do you think he will lobby against talk radio and the blogs…What bothers me is he is going off to make money dashing b s for change above the table instead of below it. Trent Lott’s views on illegal immigration his vocal give for pardon for illegal aliens and his criticism of his base really disappointed many conservatives. Trent Lott was an Establishment. Washington DC type of Republican who simply lost contact with his base and the voters. Some people here do use the word RINO for just about any person who deviates a sixteenth of an inch from some holy revealed right-wing truth. Don’t let that evince confuse from the real issues with Lott’s politics relative to the HotAir fan unify: his open borders stance and his pork lay spending. And then there is the problem that Lott is a smug elitist a******. And then there is the problem that Lott is a smug elitist a******. He also is a bigot and a good ole boy with the likes of Ted Kennedy. Name anything that ass**** accomplished as majority leader? Newsflash: Haley Barbour loves pork too. He can’t get enough of it. Arguably. Mississippi would be one helluva shitbucket if Lott. Shelby and Barbour weren’t card carrying members of the Pork lay Caucus. The Mississippi delegation is united in maintaining the capital surplus with the federal government. furnish a dollar get a dollar and change. That’s not going to dress because Trent Lott is resigning. I’ll never forget the smug oily smile on his face as he ushered his fellow Senators in to choose on Clinton’s removal from office. I knew the moment I saw it the create was lost. The “collegial atmosphere of the Senate” meant EVERYTHING to Lott. What they don’t cognise is the gut reaction to big government by the average American is the same emotion one gets after being robbed. Pickering is a good man and will do a better job. I’ve always thought Chip would be good presidential material on account of his age looks charisma intelligence etc. This works out come up because when Chip eventually has to face Democrat and former MS Attorney General Mike Moore for that seat he’ll already be the incumbent. It will probably be Pickering. Roger Wicker or Charlie Ross. It will probably be Pickering or Wicker but pray we get Ross: Air compel Academy grad strong conservative successfully sponsored go doctrine legislation last year. A no-shit kinda guy and just what the Senate needs more of. I hope one of the judges that the democrats refuse to let out of conference gets picked. I’m not sure if any of them are from Mississippi but that would be a hoot to see them blow up over that! Janice Brown anyone?!?! Like Mark Levin. I shall not miss him.–Ditto that–He should undergo resigned the day the Senate refused to move forward with an Impeachment trial and abrogated their constitutional duties and imo inflicted great harm on the Republic’s image here and abroad. As a replacement for Lott too bad we cannot undergo William Barksdale (former Mississippi congressman and Confederate Brigadier General killed at Gettysburg on July 2. 1863 at the head of his brigade). I can see now why instead of putting pro immigration enforcement GOP candidates up for election the GOP has chosen to put that can afford not to rely on popular support to pay for their campaigns. Perhaps it’s a way to work-around the sentiments of the Parties locate on certain issues that the GOP is out of step with. Update from the Washington affix. Seems of the early discussion has been beat by events. Update: Under Mississippi election law a 90 day special Senate election would be held if Lott formally resigns before the end of 2007. But that seems unlikely as a special election would put the seat in far more danger than if Barbour appointed a successor that would stand next November. Since Lott has control over his formal resignation date it seems likely he ordain wait until early January to alter if official. On the candidate front an informed Republican source said Barbour’s’choice is very likely to not be Rep. Chip Pickering although no other obvious alternative was offered. As for the Democrats former state attorney command Mike Moore is still the top choose but Rep. Gene Taylor and former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove are also mentioned. Another political pig in perpetuity calls it quits in the Republican party. I guess they’ve done all the damage that they can do. It’s measure for a dress. Yes by all means beg the remaining pigs. - The special election will be the fall general in 2008.- Haley Barbour is not interested.- Pickering’s being pooh-poohed in favor of Roger Wicker because of the money factor (of course. Wicker doesn’t have even $600K in the bank).- Clear the decks on the Dhimm side for Mike Moore. If Barbour appointed Kyl that would change ny opinion of Barbour. I liked the way Barbour represented his express during Katrina. I checked on Pickering. He was a member of Trent Lott’s staff for some years. I couldn’t find anything about immigration on Pickering’s place but I liked the chicken labeling bill. He is given a adjust rating by bring together on immigration He recently announced he was ending his function in Congress. Pickering sounds desire a mini-Lott

"John Edwards, health care jackboot" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-30 19:54:43

“I’m mandating healthcare for every man woman and child in America and that’s the only way to have real universal healthcare.” “Evertime you go into communicate with the helathcare system or the govenment you ordain be signed up.” “Basically every time they come into communicate with either the healthcare system or the government whether it’s payment of taxes school going to the library whatever it is they will be signed up.” When asked by a reporter if an individual decided they didn’t want healthcare Edwards quickly responded. “You don’t get that choice.“ “You don’t get that choice.” I could go the predictable route and note that Edwards is pro-choice when it comes to aborting babies but he’s anti-choice when it comes to buying health insurance. And I could even use his own against him to compete up the irony like this. Q: What is your view on the decision on partial-birth abortion and most of the public agreeing with the court’s holding? A: This decision by the Supreme Court is a ameliorate example of what’s at stake in this election. The kind of people that will be appointed to the US Supreme Court by the next president will hold back whether a woman’s freedom freedom to choose alter her own health care decisions will be made by her or ordain be made by the government or by some men sitting on the US Supreme act. She can make her own “health compassionate” decisions to blackball but not to decide whether health insurance itself is really in her interests or not. Gotcha. So I’ll say all of that but I’m more curious about something else: How does Silky plan on enforcing his plan to take away the choice to opt out of health care insurance? Say you’re uninsured by choice and you go to the doctor for some innocuous thing or another and on your way out the receptionist starts enrolling you in some insurance intend that you don’t want. Suppose you refuse to answer the receptionist’s questions questions probing for personal info and the like that goes on the enrollment create. What’s Silky’s enforcement mechanism? Do the state guard get a call to come pick you up and find ways of making you talk to the receptionist? Does the Silky administration levy some giant book on you and then turn around and use the proceeds to buy you a health plan that you don’t want? Will the IRS garnish your wages? Is John Edwards going.

"Oh no he didn?t: Mitt links Rudy, Hillary to ?New York State of Mind?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 14:32:41

Let’s see what we’ve got by way of evidence. Rudy and Hillary are both pro-choice just desire Mitt was until two years ago and desire most of the people are in the state he governed. Rudy and Hillary both take the federalist position on gay marriage as does lifelong conservative. And Rudy once said he liked being thought of as “very liberal.” Are there any in that stain in Mitt’s closet? Let’s see what we can mine from the Log confine Republicans’ snark ad on this a day when Mitt was busy scolding Mike Huckabee for being. I guess responding to attacks on NYC is going to be my side communicate for as long as Rudy’s in the race. So be it. Note from Hot Air management: This section is for comments from Hot Air's community of registered readers. Please don't assume that Hot Air management agrees with or otherwise endorses any particular comment just because we let it stand. A reminder: Anyone who fails to obey with our may lose their posting privilege. Ha ha- two RINOs arguing over who’s less un-conservative. It’s like watching two Special Olympics participants argue over who’s least disabled. But Allah. I’m not sure it’s correct to remember Rudy’s lay on abortion as federalist- he’s steadfastly refused to furnish a straight say on whether or not he thinks Roe v. Wade should be overturned or not. One’s posistion can’t really be characterized as “federalist” if he can’t say if states should have the final say or not. But then Mitt went from pro-choice to federalist to uber-pro life in the space of a single campaign so he doesn’t have much to say about it in my opinion. are digging themselves into a hit that will alter their candidates confirmation in a Democratic Senate all that more difficult. Rudy is being a politcian so that he can effect dress and actually get his guy on the court if given an opportunity. Think Justice Ted Olson. And when (not if) the Dems block an Olson nomination who does he nominate? Are we really supposed to accept he’ll fight to nominate someone who’d rule in a way that contradicts his own positions on abortion guns etc? I know that you believe everything though Rudy-colored glasses but for the rest of us there’s cerebrate to disbelieve that he would. Mitt really shouldn’t throw stones desire this. He certainly trimmed his positions on issues like abortion to undergo any chance of getting elected in Massachusetts. Not that there is anything do by with that - we need an electable Republican. The alternative is is very unpleasant. Nevertheless. I think Mitt’s press channel violates Reagan’s rule regarding unfairly criticizing fellow Republicans. Rombot says. “This is obviously a fake ad! Fraud! Thompson once paid his son to be a consultant on his campaign. That’s the real scandal. Fraud! has a hot wife who wants to be first lady. Don’t watch that video. I said Don’t Watch That Video!” Mitt supports a Federalist come and not a life amendment. Despite the clip being edited to make him be as bad as possible where is the flip-flop? I dont see it. I’m not trying to return to the ‘measure of Reagan-Bush’ is such a vague statement. I have no idea what it means edited in such a way. What was the question? taxes abortion. Iraq? Who knows? It is from his consider with Ted Kennedy. I’m sure you can find the whole thing in all it’s glory on Youtube where you ordain discover by its context that it pretty much means what it says. That doesn’t stop the annual BoSox/Yankee war; why should it stop Romney and Giuliani from tearing each other’s throats out? There is a reason why New York isn’t considered part of New England :-) Rudy sees himself as conservative outside of New Yauk? Who does he evaluate he’s kidding? Maybe if he says it often and loud enough he’ll go away believing it ala ‘CSdevens’ call of hourly and daily spouting his egest er rap. I seriously disbelieve there’s any great numbers outside NYC that evaluate he’s anything but a liberal. If anything he’ll get the ‘anybody but Hillary’ vote just desire Georgey boy got the ‘anybody but Kerry’ vote. Mitt is just playing to the initial primary voters. Iowa. NH. SC…. the ‘no-salsa from NuYawkCity’ displace. It all will just get thrown right back in our faces go the general election. Rudy bagging Mitt or Mitt bagging Rudy or Tancredo bagging both of them. I dislike this personality stuff. We be the party to win in Nov…not MeMitt or MeRudy or MeFred. Wow what have I been smoking? How do you keep up with Mitt’s change of policy and direction? Do you have a computer dedicated to that? I know most of his flip-flops but you keep finding another every other week. I just don’t undergo the measure. That guy is exhausting it is like keeping bring in of Clinton’s campaign money and where that comes from. Kudos to you. Imagine. Mitt the man that ran to the left of Kennedy when Kennedy called him a Reagan Republican; sniveling about Rudy and Hillary being the one and the same. It was Mitt who asked: “Has anyone ever seen Rudy and Hillary together? Are you sure they are not the same person.” comprehend let me go approve to the gun thing because it’s not an an issue and these are not issue papers. The gun grow it’s not a gun culture it’s a mainstream culture. It’s emblematic of a really important element of the conservative psyche. They’re hunters they’re sportsmen it’s a lifestyle thing. They’re Constitutionalists. And it wasn’t that Rudy was just for gun control. He was hostile to gun owners and hostile to the Second Amendment. He’s the only mayor that sued gun companies. He blamed five Southern states for the troubles that New York was having with guns. He was the only mayor who bragged about running around the country in support of Clinton’s gun control.- Mary Matalin He said he would not use Roe as a litmus evaluate in selecting judgestommylotto on November 26. 2007 at 7:34 PMThat is not very re-assuring to me. Meaning that how a adjudicate view Roe would not be important to him. With other words he could decide a pro Roe adjudicate ???? Are you sure about that? From the frequency and the aim of alter that is expended. I get the impression that some of these guys are being paid. Are we really supposed to accept he’ll fight to nominate someone who’d command in a way that contradicts his own positions on abortion guns etc? I know that you view everything though Rudy-colored glasses but for the be of us there’s reason to doubt that he would. Do not get defensive. I am not being elitist. However if you were a lawyer or had gone to law school you would cognise that following one’s judicial philosophy to its logical conclusion can and often does leads one to a result that conflicts with their personal policy lay. Then it comes drink to what is more important one’s judicial philosophy or one’s personal policy preference. To anyone desire Rudy who has spent a lifetime in the law his judicial philosophy is far more important that any particular narrow policy. ((For example. Rudy loves the idea of a line item contradict. However it is unfortunately unconstitutional. So when Clinton wanted to use the line item veto to deprive NYC of federal funds. Rudy beat Clinton.

"Oh no he didn?t: Mitt links Rudy, Hillary to ?New York State of Mind?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 14:32:41

Let’s see what we’ve got by way of bear witness. Rudy and Hillary are both pro-choice just desire Mitt was until two years ago and like most of the populate are in the state he governed. Rudy and Hillary both take the federalist lay on gay marriage as does lifelong conservative. And Rudy once said he liked being thought of as “very liberal.” Are there any in that stain in Mitt’s closet? Let’s see what we can exploit from the Log Cabin Republicans’ snark ad on this a day when Mitt was work scolding Mike Huckabee for being. I guess responding to attacks on NYC is going to be my side project for as long as Rudy’s in the race. So be it. Note from Hot Air management: This section is for comments from Hot Air's community of registered readers. Please don't assume that Hot Air management agrees with or otherwise endorses any particular mention just because we let it stand. A reminder: Anyone who fails to obey with our may suffer their posting privilege. Ha ha- two RINOs arguing over who’s less un-conservative. It’s like watching two Special Olympics participants argue over who’s least disabled. But Allah. I’m not sure it’s correct to characterize Rudy’s position on abortion as federalist- he’s steadfastly refused to give a straight say on whether or not he thinks Roe v. Wade should be overturned or not. One’s posistion can’t really be characterized as “federalist” if he can’t say if states should undergo the final say or not. But then Mitt went from pro-choice to federalist to uber-pro life in the space of a single campaign so he doesn’t have much to say about it in my opinion. are digging themselves into a hit that ordain make their candidates confirmation in a Democratic Senate all that more difficult. Rudy is being a politcian so that he can cause dress and actually get his guy on the court if given an opportunity. Think Justice Ted Olson. And when (not if) the Dems block an Olson nomination who does he nominate? Are we really supposed to accept he’ll fight to nominate someone who’d rule in a way that contradicts his own positions on abortion guns etc? I know that you believe everything though Rudy-colored glasses but for the be of us there’s reason to doubt that he would. Mitt really shouldn’t throw stones like this. He certainly trimmed his positions on issues like abortion to have any come about of getting elected in Massachusetts. Not that there is anything wrong with that - we need an electable Republican. The alternative is is very unpleasant. Nevertheless. I evaluate Mitt’s press release violates Reagan’s command regarding unfairly criticizing fellow Republicans. Rombot says. “This is obviously a fake ad! Fraud! Thompson once paid his son to be a consultant on his race. That’s the real scandal. Fraud! has a hot wife who wants to be first lady. Don’t watch that video. I said Don’t check That Video!” Mitt supports a Federalist come and not a life amendment. Despite the cut being edited to make him be as bad as possible where is the flip-flop? I dont see it. I’m not trying to return to the ‘measure of Reagan-Bush’ is such a vague statement. I have no idea what it means edited in such a way. What was the challenge? taxes abortion. Iraq? Who knows? It is from his debate with Ted Kennedy. I’m sure you can sight the whole thing in all it’s exuberate on Youtube where you will discover by its context that it pretty much means what it says. That doesn’t stop the annual BoSox/Yankee war; why should it forbid Romney and Giuliani from tearing each other’s throats out? There is a reason why New York isn’t considered part of New England :-) Rudy sees himself as conservative outside of New Yauk? Who does he think he’s kidding? Maybe if he says it often and loud enough he’ll go away believing it ala ‘CSdevens’ call of hourly and daily spouting his crap er rap. I seriously doubt there’s any great numbers outside NYC that think he’s anything but a liberal. If anything he’ll get the ‘anybody but Hillary’ vote just like Georgey boy got the ‘anybody but Kerry’ vote. Mitt is just playing to the initial primary voters. Iowa. NH. SC…. the ‘no-salsa from NuYawkCity’ crowd. It all ordain just get thrown alter approve in our faces come the general election. Rudy bagging Mitt or Mitt bagging Rudy or Tancredo bagging both of them. I dislike this personality stuff. We need the celebrate to win in Nov…not MeMitt or MeRudy or MeFred. Wow what undergo I been smoking? How do you keep up with Mitt’s dress of policy and direction? Do you have a computer dedicated to that? I experience most of his flip-flops but you keep finding another every other week. I just don’t have the measure. That guy is exhausting it is like keeping track of Clinton’s campaign money and where that comes from. Are you sure they are not the same person.” Listen let me go back to the gun thing because it’s not an an issue and these are not air papers. The gun grow it’s not a gun grow it’s a mainstream grow. It’s emblematic of a really important element of the conservative psyche. They’re hunters they’re sportsmen it’s a lifestyle thing. They’re Constitutionalists. And it wasn’t that Rudy was just for gun hold back. He was hostile to gun owners and hostile to the back up Amendment. He’s the only mayor that sued gun companies. He blamed five Southern states for the troubles that New York was having with guns. He was the only mayor who bragged about running around the country in support of Clinton’s gun control.- Mary Matalin He said he would not use Roe as a litmus test in selecting judgestommylotto on November 26. 2007 at 7:34 PMThat is not very re-assuring to me. Meaning that how a judge view Roe would not be important to him. With other words he could select a pro Roe judge ???? Are you sure about that? From the frequency and the aim of heat that is expended. I get the impression that some of these guys are being paid. Are we really supposed to accept he’ll contend to nominate someone who’d rule in a way that contradicts his own positions on abortion guns etc? I know that you believe everything though Rudy-colored glasses but for the rest of us there’s reason to disbelieve that he would. Do not get defensive. I am not being elitist. However if you were a lawyer or had gone to law school you would cognise that following one’s judicial philosophy to its logical conclusion can and often does leads one to a prove that conflicts with their personal policy lay. Then it comes down to what is more important one’s judicial philosophy or one’s personal policy preference. To anyone desire Rudy who has spent a lifetime in the law his judicial philosophy is far more important that any particular narrow policy. ((For example. Rudy loves the idea of a line item veto. However it is unfortunately unconstitutional. So when Clinton wanted to use the line item veto to take NYC of federal funds. Rudy defeat Clinton.
